The Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reef, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI–CFF) Regional Secretariat recently hosted the “Selection Process of Deputy Executive Director for Program and Corporate Services” from 27-28 June 2016 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Deputy Executive Director (DED) positions are crucial to support the Executive Director, especially to strengthen the operations of the Regional Secretariat. More importantly the DEDs are expected to lead in program/project design and implementation under the RPOA goals and targets.

The Appointment Committee

The CTI Council of Ministers (CTI-COM) delegated the responsibility and mandate to the CTI Committee of Senior Officials (CTI-CSO) to establish an Appointment Committee in order to conduct the selection process and recommend candidates to the CTI-COM.

During the 11th CTI-CFF Senior Officials’ Meeting held on 2-3 December 2015, the CTI-CSO submitted their nominations as members of the Appointment Committee to advance the selection process[1].

Members of the Appointment Committee (left to right) : Rosalie Masu (Solomon Islands), Sri Atmini (Indonesia), Dato’ Dr. Mohd Azhar HJ. Yahaya (Malaysia), Ms. Nilda S. Baling (Philippines), Mr. Accacio Guterres (Timor-Leste)

The members of the Appointment Committee from all CT6 member countries participated in the selection process except for Papua New Guinea. However, Papua New Guinea responded to the invitation letter and confirmed its consent to proceed with the selection process of the Deputy Executive Directors.

Final process

The advertisement for the DED positions were published for approximately 2 months from February to March 2016, upon which, the CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat received more than 400 applications for both positions combined. The Regional Secretariat shortlisted potential candidates for each position based on seven (7) criteria[1] and these candidates were further assessed and interviewed by the Appointment Committee during the 27-28 June 2016 “Selection Process of Deputy Executive Director for Program and Corporate Services”.

The final candidates shall then be informed to all NCCs, two (2) weeks prior to the 12th Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM-12) for it to be agreed upon and recommended for final appointment during the 6th Ministerial Meeting (MM-6).
