Women and girls' contributions to the fisheries sector are often hidden and informal, making them invisible as contributing actors for economic development, key transmitters of knowledge, and change agents. Hence, this limits their potential to benefit from small-scale fisheries economies and become equal contributors to the sector.
As we celebrate International Women's Day 2024, let us recognize and reflect on the important contributions of women and girls in sustainable fisheries management in the region, and celebrate the strides they made by reading and sharing with your network the following USAID Sustainable Fish Asia Technical Support Activity's latest publications:
- Unlocking the Potential of Women and Youth in Small-Scale Fisheries in the Indo-Pacific Region
- Bringing Women and Youth in the Regional Efforts to Address Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUU) in the Indo-Pacific Region
Our profound gratitude to the amazing partners and small-scale fishers, including women and girls, featured in these publications who shared their experiences in the interviews. Their willingness to contribute was instrumental in shaping these publications.
Let us continue working together in strengthening our advocacy and efforts for gender equality and social inclusion in fisheries management and marine biodiversity conservation in the region.
