Indonesia’s COREMAP-CTI Gets New US$47.38M Loan from World Bank
(MEDIA RELEASE) The rehabilitation of Indonesia’s coral reefs will receive more than US$62 million of additional funding through the Coral Reef Rehabilitation and Management Program-Coral Triangle Initiative (COREMAP-CTI) project.
New ADB Coral Reef Project Eyes Sustainable Management of Indonesia’s MPAs
A project by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) seeks to introduce plans for the sustainable management of Indonesia’s marine resources in key coastal areas.
ADB “Project 46421-001: Coral Reef Rehabilitation and Management Program-Coral Triangle Initiative (COREMAP-CTI)” hopes to enable coastal communities, and the institutions that support them, to manage coral reef resources and associated ecosystems and biodiversity in a sustainable manner.
COREMAP-CTI focuses on a national plan to establish marine protected areas (MPAs) and effectively manage these MPAs.
New Chairman for CTI-CFF Interim Regional Secretariat
His Excellency Sharief C. Sutardjo, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries has appointed Prof. Dr. Ir. Sjarief Widjaja, Ph.D, FRINA, Secretary General of Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fishery of Indonesia, as the new Chairman of the CTI-CFF Interim Regional Secretariat (IRS) effective January 17, 2014. After more than three years serving as the IRS Chairman, his predecessor Dr. Sudirman Saad is moving on to assume new responsibilities.

Threatened Marine Ecosystems Get Boost from US$4.5 Million Grant from the GEF
The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved a project on September 30, 2013 to support the Capturing Coral Reef and Related Ecosystem Services Project, with US$4.5 million in grant funding provided by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). This regional project will design innovative models for valuing mangrove, sea grass and coral reef ecosystems services to inform policy and decision making for improved environmental stewardship of these critical resources.
Reefs at Risk Revisited in the Coral Triangle Bahasa Edition
Reefs at Risk Revisited in the Coral Triangle studies current and future threats to the Coral Triangle’s reefs, evaluates social and economic vulnerability to reef degradation and loss throughout the six countries, examines reef management initiatives, and identifies solutions to help safeguard reefs.
