CTI-CFF prepares for 2nd Leaders’ Summit

Jakarta, Indonesia, February 2020 – Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment organized an initial meeting to discuss about the possible venue for the 2nd CTI-CFF Leaders’ Summit. Present in the meeting were representatives from Indonesia CTI National Coordinating Commmittee and CTI-CFF was represented by Deputy Executive Directors Mr. Gustaaf Lumiu and Dr. Sharifah Nora Ibrahim.

In the meeting, the Regional Secretariat (RS) shared that there are two venues being proposed for the Leaders’ Summit - the Archipelagic Islands States Forum in Bali Indonesia and 15th Meeting of the Conference of Parties (COP15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Kunming, China. RS noted that final decision from the Coral Triangle six member countries are being awaited before starting preparation and coordination with the event’s Secretariat for the Leaders’ Summit. RS also presented the proposed roadmap to Leaders’ Summit as well as the budgetary requirements if conducted in either of the two proposed venues.

The 2nd CTI-CFF Leaders’ Summit is the venue to launch the renewal of the CTI-CFF Regional Plan of Action (RPOA 2.0). Through the Leaders’ Declaration, it also hopes to gather renewed commitment, pledges and trust from the leaders of the six member countries. Further, the new Host Country Agreement as well as the highlights of the 10-Year accomplishments of the CTI-CFF will be presented.


The 1st CTI Leaders’ Summit was conducted in 15 May 2009 in Manado, Indonesia where CTI-CFF was launched through the signing of the Leaders’ Declaration and the leaders adopted the 10-Year Regional Plan of Action.
