Internalizing Communication Strategies through the CTI-CFF Communication Workshop

Effective communication is vital for any organization's success, especially when it comes to multinational initiatives with diverse stakeholders. The Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries, and Food Security (CTI-CFF) recognizes the significance of communication in achieving its conservation goals. To foster better collaboration and understanding among its members, a communication workshop was held to strategize and coordinate communication efforts for 2023-2024. The workshop is made possible in part by the generous support of the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Manado, 25 July 2023.

The workshop commenced with a presentation by the Communication and Information Manager of CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat, who shared the CTI-CFF's Communication Strategy annexed to the Regional Plan of Action (RPOA) 2.0.

Internalization of the communication strategy involves understanding of certain behaviours and mindset to strengthen CTI-CFF position for advocacy, inviting actions and education. It’s the mission that is more important than the institution, that Coral Triangle is a home in crisis thus are the livelihoods and food security of many people. And that CTI-CFF is exclusively the regional partnership of six countries with real actions on the ground.

Participants gained insights into the importance of effective communication and how it plays a pivotal role in advancing the organization's mission. The presentation underscored the significance of coordinated communication systems, robust communication platforms, and the goals to promote CTI-CFF as one prominent multi-lateral partnership in custody of the most important marine resources of the world.

The participants were engaged in an intellectually stimulating discussion regarding country members' commitment to various communication aspects. The focus encompassed communications coordination systems, choice of communication platforms and channels, and the coveted list of products slated for development in 2024. This discourse laid the foundation for cohesive efforts, ensuring that every country member is aligned with the broader vision while maintaining their unique contributions.

Following the presentation, the workshop continued led by Ms. Ariani Hasanah Soejoeti, Sr Communications and Outreach Specialist, SuFIA TS. Participants were divided into groups and engaged in lively discussions and exercises in designing communication materials and getting to know the audiences. Each group was tasked with exploring the institutions, avenues, and channels of communication utilized by the respective partner organizations. The group discussions proved highly fruitful, as participants shared unique perspectives and best practices from their own experiences. They discovered the importance of tailoring communication strategies to suit the specific nature and needs of each partner organization, ensuring more impactful and effective interactions.

The workshop concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and a heightened commitment to effective communication within the CTI-CFF framework. Attendees departed equipped with a profound understanding of strategic communication nuances, poised to catalyse positive change through harmonious and impactful collaboration.
