(March 26, 2014) CTI-CFF Partners are rolling out plans for a region-wide campaign to celebrate Coral Triangle Day (CT Day) in just over two months’ time.

First held on June 9, 2012, CT Day was officially recognized by CTI-CFF at their 4th Ministerial Meeting held in Putrajaya, Malaysia in November 2012. This helped raise the profile of CT Day as a regional event. As a result, on June 9, 2013, CTI-CFF Partners recorded a remarkable participation of more than 30,000 people in more than 60 individual activities around the region.

The CTI-CFF National Coordination Committees (NCCs) played a key role in mobilizing mass audiences throughout the region for last year’s CT Day celebrations. This year, they are encouraged to organize activities around the theme “Protect the Coral Triangle, Provide more fish for the world,” as are NGOs, civic groups and individuals that wish to continue or begin contributing to raising awareness and advocating for the Coral Triangle.

The Partners are looking to engage more participants through information and social media, highlighting CT Day as an “open sourced event,” owned by no one and involving everyone. Initial preparatory conference calls have been held involving the IRS, Partners and communication people within the CTI-CFF family to set the CT Day activities into motion.
