Philippines hands-over chairmanship of CTI Council of Ministers to Solomon Islands

Manila, Philippines, December 2018 – After two years, the symbolic gavel of the chairmanship of the CTI-CFF Council of Ministers has been passed on to the Solomon Islands from the Philippines.  The Philippines also handed over the chairmanship of the CTI-CFF Committee of Senior Officials to Solomon Islands.

The Philippines’ Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Roy Cimatu thanked all partners for supporting the Philippines during their two-year leadership and called on CT6 member countries “to continue to support the CTI’s cause of empowering communities and providing them with options that will address their needs amidst the emerging impacts of climate change.”

Solomon Islands who was represented by Ms. Rosalie Masu, Deputy Director of the Inshore Fisheries Division of the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources upon acceptance of the gavel thanked the exemplary leadership that the Philippines had made in the last two years.

“You (the Philippines) surely have paved the path ahead and for this we know that the journey ahead is easier,” Masu said.

“To the CT6 member countries and the Development Partners, we look forward to using these responsibilities and continue to work with you in the next two years,” Masu remarked.

The CTI-CFF Council of Ministers is the highest formal decision-making body of the initiative that meets regularly and has the power to adopt and approve the CTI-CFF resolutions at Ministerial Meetings. The Chairmanship of the CTI COM rotates among the six countries has a fixed term.
