Introduction to New Regional Secretariat Members

We are pleased to introduce three new members to the CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat. These talented individuals bring a wealth of experience and dedication to our organization:

  • Mr. Hanung Cahyono from Indonesia joins us as the new Deputy Executive Director of Corporate Services (DED-CS).
  • Mr. Agostinho Irmawan from Timor Leste takes on the role of Monitoring and Evaluation Manager (MEM).
  • Mr. Dave Senewe from Indonesia will serve as our Finance Assistant Manager (FAM).

Re-Introduction of RPOA 2.0

During the recent meeting, the Regional Secretariat (RS) re-presented the Regional Plan of Action (RPOA) 2.0. This session included updates on the 2023 country reports from Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Solomon Islands, and Timor Leste. These updates highlighted activities related to threatened species and their alignment with the RPOA 2.0's goals.

Feedback from member countries emphasized the importance of developing detailed matrices for each Technical Working Group (TWG) and quantifying the percentage of completed actions. RS confirmed that templates have been finalized and that they are flexible to accommodate various activities.

TWG Prioritization Workshop with CTCF

We look forward to the participation of the Threatened Species TWG in the prioritization workshop with the Coral Triangle Conservation Fund (CTCF). This workshop, scheduled for March 6, 2024, in Manado, aims to align TWG priorities with the CTCF strategic plan.

SOM-18 Decisions and 2024 Workplan

The RS presented decisions from SOM-18, noting that points #5 and #6 will be further discussed in the next TWG meeting. The 2024 workplan and budget for the Threatened Species TWG were also presented, with plans for a physical meeting in Q3 hosted by a Pacific country, supported by WWF Coral Triangle and USAID-Sustainable Coral Triangle.

Proposed Physical Events for 2024

RS is planning a significant event in Q3 2024, including the 5th Threatened Species Working Group Meeting. Discussions are ongoing with potential partners to finalize the event details. Additionally, there is a proposal to hold a series of TWG meetings in conjunction with CT Day in Manado in June, to maximize budget efficiency and support the celebration.

Conclusion

The meeting concluded with closing remarks from the Chair of the Threatened Species TWG and the Regional Secretariat, expressing gratitude for the constructive discussions and continued commitment to our shared goals.

We look forward to an exciting year of collaboration and progress in 2024!
